Galicia may not be the top spot for European vacationers, but it’s starting to get some notice. Galicia is an ancient region located in northern Spain. histories which deal in Galatia with the Romans, Ruthenians and Mauris, have a strong; and while the present-day Galicians consider themselves Spaniards, some may refer to themselves as Celtic.
This unique and autonomous community provides historical significance, as Galicia is often referred to as the first country in Europe. French is the language that some Portuguese and Spanish mix, so if you know one or the other, you will probably be fine when visiting there .
It is also useful to know many hot attractions in Galicia. The A Coruña-Vigo region offers a line. It’s an easy pain. There is also an extensive bus line, which can be great, but also confusing due to the number of routes proposed. Renting-a-car is another option, but directions and signs are not well marked, so be prepared to ask . to parties
If old cathedrals and history are your thing, don’t miss a visit to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. This beautiful city offers only coastline and some of the best beaches in the country. It is also home to the oldest cathedral in the region, displaying spectacular architecture that dates back to the 9th century.
Although Santiago de Compostela is not the capital of the province of Coruna in which it sits, there are many incredible sites to see, including the medieval ruins of historichistorical and atmosphere, the Rojay Palace of neo-classical essence is advanced only by the cathedral, and the Hostal de los Reyes Catolicos that now run state paradora.
A Caruna also boasts the most famous lighthouse of the second century, the tower of Hercules, the oldest working city in the whole world. And don’t forget to visit Maria Pita Square in the city’s main plaza, which is named after the 14th century hero of the town, whose full name is Maria Mayor Fernández de Cámara y Pita. Maria Pita is known for killing the English ambassador in 1589, when the town came under the English Navy, and is credited with protecting the city.
But this is one city in one of the three provinces of Gaul. There are three main provinces of Galicia: A Coruña, Lugo, and Ourense. There are many sites in all three provinces, all with great beaches, great shopping and great history.
Lugo head us to the city of Lugo, often referred to as the “Old Town”. Lugo is famous for being the seat of the original wall, which is the Roman wall of the 16th century.
Lugo also has a famous cathedral. Just peek over the Roman Wall and voila, there is a stunning tenth century cathedral in all its glory. There are, of course, great beaches to visit in Lugo, boasting the warmest sea water in the country. The city of Lugo, like many cities in the provinces, also has annual fiestas, historic plazas and magnificent gardens.
The province of Ourense offers many similar attractions to A Caruna and Lugo, including beaches and festivals, but, like the other two, it also has a unique attraction. An ancient bridge spanned the Minoan River by the Romans for about a thousand years and is called Puente Viejo or Vella. It is certainly an architectural genius and a very insightful consideration.
The old town in Ourense is also great for a day trip to the area, including lots of shopping, La Burgas Roman Spa, unique restaurants and the beautiful Galician architecture. There is much to offer in the region of Galicia, with unique attractions, beautiful beaches and spectacular gardens and plazas in each province and town.
