Top Ten Gifts for Outdoorsmen

Living in a rural part of the country as I do, I’m surrounded by outdoorsmen who love to spend time working and playing in the fresh air. If you have at least one man in your life who enjoys fishing, cutting wood, hiking or camping, then you need to know about these top ten gifts for outdoorsmen.

1. Windproof Lighter
Just because an outdoorsman doesn’t smoke doesn’t mean he can’t use a windproof lighter. These fire-starters are good for camp fires and bon fires, and they’re also a good way to help thaw frozen hands. The refillable lighters are the best type because they can be used time and time again. Also, look for a windproof lighter that has an adjustable flame. This gift usually costs around ten bucks.

2. Stealth Camera
Since many animals are nocturnal, nighttime is when outdoorsmen can see the most activity outside. It’s hard to see details in the dark, but with a Stealth Camera, everything will be clear
as a bell. This type of Stealth Camera uses an infrared activation system. Once it detects motion, it takes one to three photos or several seconds of video coverage if you want to see live action.
Choose a camera that’s weatherproof for added durability. A camera like this will cost under $250.

3. Wind ‘N Go™ Flashlight
I couldn’t wait until my birthday or Christmas, so I bought myself a Wind ‘N Go Flashlight. I loved it as soon as I saw it. What outdoorsman wouldn’t love it too? This flashlight doesn’t need replaceable batteries. Instead, to charge it up, you simply turn the crank for sixty seconds. The results? You get thirty minutes of bright light! The best of these flashlights have low and high light settings. They’re unavailable in catalogs for $20 – $25.00. Look at your local drugstores, though, and you may find one for $15 like I did.

4. Digital Watch and Compass Combo
A watch is just a watch, but a watch with a compass attached to it is one perfect top ten gift for outdoorsmen! The best type is the one that’s the same size as an ordinary wristwatch. No man wants to drag around some clumsy outfit on his arm. Every outdoorsman that spends a lot of time in the great outdoors needs to be able to find his way home. This gift runs around a hundred bucks.

5. Snowball Maker
All work and no play can make an outdoorsman feel tired and cranky. So why not buy him a gift he can have fun with?! A snowball maker packs together snow to make a perfectly-round snowball! The one I saw was durable plastic with long, tong-like handles. This device can be especially handy if the snow is wet and sloppy. It will keep his hands dry and warm! They cost under ten bucks.

6. Coleman™ Rechargeable Lantern
I think you can never have too many portable light sources, especially during the long winter months. This lantern- which I have one myself- is rechargeable from a household outlet or from your car’s cigarette lighter. It has two fluorescent tubes that provide a real bright light for when you’re outdoors at night. The brightness of the tubes are adjustable which makes it handy to use when you need just a dim light, or a strong light to see by. Lanterns like this usually run around thirty bucks.

7. Collapsible Telescope
What better top ten gift for outdoorsmen than a collapsible telescope? This handy device comes with a waterproof carrying case he can use to store it safely in. The best kind of telescope is also waterproof and durable itself so it can withstand accidental abuse, such as being dropped. A collapsible telescope can be used to scout out deer and other wildlife, check out long-distance objects, or just get a better view of beautiful scenery. You can buy a good telescope for around twenty bucks.

8. Watertight Cell Phone Case
If someone on your gift list is an outdoorsmen, they probably carry a cell phone with them at all times. Cell phones are practically necessities nowadays as a portable means of communication. But, they can easily slide out of a pocket. And, they can get wet if you have a cell phone just hanging on your belt. Especially if your phone falls into a lake or pond! So, a watertight cell phone case can make a practical gift! You can find hard-plastic models that are waterproof. Look for a case that’s lined with a soft fabric on the inside so the phone will be protected from being dropped or bumped around. This gift costs under twenty bucks.

9. Swiss Army Knife (Combination Tool)
Another top ten gift for outdoorsmen has been around for a long time. But this tool is so versatile and useful, that it never goes out of style: it’s a Swiss Army Knife. This little tool can have a combination of many helpers that are all connected together in one knife-like case. They include knife blades, a bottle opener, spoon, fork, flat and Phillips head screwdrivers, nail files,
mini saw, et cetera. The nicest Swiss Army Knives have protective carrying cases with a belt loop. You can find them at hardware stores for around twenty bucks.

10. Songbird Alarm Clock
If your outdoorsman is a bird watcher, or, if he just loves to hear the sounds of nature, then a Songbird Alarm Clock will be a top ten gift for him! A Songbird Alarm Clock will wake your sleepy guy up with one of several different bird calls. The most common calls seem to be the Robin, Owl, Catbird, Barn Swallow and Rooster. Look in the clock department of your favorite department store and be prepared to spend around forty bucks.
