What are the most motivational pop songs of 2007? Music is a way to motivate the soul, to inspire the greatest of things. Music seems to have this power over us, to put us into a certain mood just by us lending our ears to its vibrations. All you have to do is listen…
Each year, artists in the music scene do their best to fill our heads with passionate melodies and induced mood states with their music. Some we find out about, whereas others are left to be discovered in the dust…
This year, there were many pop songs that could have made the top ten motivational pop songs for 2007. To me, for a pop song to be motivational, it has to focus on motivating the individual to be a better person. Interestingly enough, just like other music genres like country and rock music, it seems that many of these are about being hurt by someone or wanting back a lost love. However, ten songs were found that do truly inspire. Here are the ones chosen to grace this list and why…
1. No One by Alicia Keys. I doubt anyone will argue with my first choice. This song is one of the few on the list that doesn’t have to do with making it on your own, but it still is a motivational pop song. Why? Alicia Keys sings about no one being able to stop her from feeling her true feelings for this person. This could apply to any situation in life- if you believe in it, then see it through, no matter what anyone says. Don’t let go of your own dreams.
2. Over You by Daughtry. Okay, so now we change gears and move to a crossover rock song, that made it to the pop scene. I always knew Chris Daughtry should have won that season of American Idol. Look at him now. Well, he’s probably better off! This song is a top ten motivational pop song because it talks about moving on. This is the classic motivational theme, where guy gets over girl, or girl finally believes in herself on her own, etc. Daughtry sings about getting better and putting his heart back together. For anyone who has experienced heartbreak, you know this can take a long, long time. But, if you motivate yourself, eventually you’ll be able to feel whole again.
3. Taking Chances by Celine Dion. Celine Dion brings herself back into the music scene with this motivational song and album with the same title. The song Taking Chances is motivating because it talks about just doing what you feel and not worrying about the consequences. In other words, go with your heart. Some of us spend our whole lives avoiding every type of risk possible, and then look back to see that we really haven’t done all that much. So what chance are you willing to take this week? Get motivated!
4. Alicia Keys and John Mayer, with Lesson Learned. Most of us can probably relate to making a mistake. Even making the same one over and over again. Perhaps it’s like Alicia Keys and John Mayer sing about in this song, where they went back for more in a mistake relationship. But it could be almost anything. Maybe you keep taking jobs that you don’t like, and finally realize you can’t do this to yourself anymore. Maybe you’ve been battling weight issues for ten years, always going back to the same old unhealthy food choices, but now you’re going to actually learn the lesson and stop the losing trend.
5. Fergie’s Big Girls Don’t Cry. I wrestle with the thought that perhaps this should have been number one. This one is the one that’s really about being by yourself and taking care of your own issues. I didn’t put it at number one because I don’t necessarily think that motivation should really have to come from being alone or single. I think it just depends on your own situation. So, Fergie, you’ll stay at number five.
Fergie makes the list with this tune because sometimes you have to take care of yourself. You have to do whatever it takes to get on with your own life, even if it means ending a relationship with someone you love. This can be painful, but once in a while there’s just no other answer.
6. Hero/Heroine by Boys Like Girls. This song is about the willingness to open yourself up to another human being and make a connection. You both will save each other. It’s about teamwork. This is motivational because it gives us hope to give and receive help from someone other than ourselves.
7. Nickelback, with If Everyone Cared. I just should have made a top ten list of Nickelback tunes for 2007, because Nickelback’s songs are incredibly motivating. There is just an edge about them that gets your heart pumping and juices flowing, so to speak. I always listen to Nickelback when I want to get motivated to do something. Either that or Rocky’s Eye of the Tiger song by Survivor. If Everyone Cared is a song about how the world could actually be a great place, and not have all these problems, if everyone had a sense of morals and decency. In other words, if everyone actually had a heart and listened to it. The song motivates me to want to share this idea with everyone, so that maybe this ideal situation will actually come about. But, then again, even Utopia wasn’t perfect.
8. Nickelback’s Rockstar. Yes, Nickelback made it to the chart again with this awesome tune. The song Rockstar is motivating because I personally want to be a Rockstar. So, maybe I have a personal bias. But, the song is about having a dream we want to come true. Yours could be becoming a firefighter, or researching cancer. Whatever it is, we all dreams that we believe in. All that matters is that you have a dream and get the motivation to pursue it. Listening to this song motivates me to pursue my dreams.
9. Nickelback’s Savin’ Me. I told you this band was hot. They made it with three top motivational pop songs. They crossover from the rock genre, but the songs make the pop charts and radio play all the time. This song is a great motivator because it talks about someone saving themselves from the wrong path they’ve taken. This person wants to get on the right track, and is seeking help to do so!
10. Jennifer Lopez’s Brave. This song hasn’t been officially released yet as a single, but it still is available on ITunes and by purchasing the album, Brave. This song makes the list, because Jennifer sings about making a brand new start, and not being afraid of what will come. You have to be Brave, and not be afraid. Although the song is super new and just hot off the press, it still makes the chart because motivation can be inspired by braveness. The two go hand in hand. Hopefully listening to this song will motivate you to just go for it, and not be afraid of anything standing in your way!
