Top Ten Pillar Songs

Pillar is one of the first Christian Rock bands that I started listening too. Their songs said a lot to me as I listened to them. Their music reminds me of secular rock, but the lyrics are ones that make you want to fight for what you believe in. Their music is considered rock, while they do have some slow ballads. All of their songs are ones that make you want to sing along and get up and move around. They are one of my favorite bands along with Kutless and Skillet. Here are 10 of my favorite Pillar songs, and I hope when you hear their songs on their website or myspace page you would like them as well.

10. Angels In Disguise: Angels In Disguise is a wonderful ballad. It talks of not seeing things for what they are. Seeing the good in what we have instead of looking other places for happiness, or at least that is what I get out of it. Angels in Disguise is the first ballad that I have heard from this band. It appears on The Reckoning album. When listening to it, it seems different from the other Pillar songs, but it adds to their diversity and adds a new song to a list of favorites.

9. Hypnotized: This was the first song that I heard of Pillar’s and it is what made me fall in love with the band. With this song the band talks about being hypnotized by lies from society, media and other things that may tell us one thing is good when in reality it isn’t. They ask the question where do we go from here. And that could go with where do we go from here after being saved, after seeing through the “lies” after being “hypnotized.” Sometimes we need to look beyond what we are told and look at what something is and what we believe.

8. Holding On: This song is on the same album as Hypnotized. It talks of getting confused through things and looking for the truth and wanting to see what it’s all about. We hold on to what we see and where we belong in life. We hold on to our faith and our beliefs and that is something that Pillar talks about in many of their songs, holding onto your faith and standing up for your beliefs. “I know everything thats going on around me” to me that’s saying we need to pay attention to the world around us, not just the things that interest us. We see where we go wrong, but still hold on to our beliefs and what we desire.

7. Fireproof: When this song starts out you feel like yourself getting pumped up for something. I like the chorus about being fireproof against different things that life has to offer. It is our time to rise and fight for our beliefs and what we believe and being fireproof against things allow us to fight harder and not be able to bow down to things that make us fall from our stance. Sometimes we need to guard ourselves against some things in life and make ourselves so called FIreproof.

6. Further From Myself: This one is a combination ballad and rock like song. It starts off like a ballad but forms into a little more like a rock song. This is another song that I enjoy listening to over and over again. It speaks to everyone who feels like they are falling further from everything they enjoy in life; to those who feel far away from everything. Sometimes we feel like different people we are around other people or even God.

5. When Tomorrow Never Comes: The lead singer’s voice really stands out in this song. I get the feel that this song is about not living in the past. We need to find a way to let go of the past and move forward and look towards the future instead of holding onto the past whether it is good or bad. There is good within the future and while we can remember the past, we cannot live in it and start anew tomorrow. Sometimes we need to let go of the past and live for the future, in case it doesn’t come. That is something that speaks thousands of words to me.

4. Dirty Little Secrets: This one goes along with secrets and secret addictions sometimes. Many of Pillars songs about secrets and hiding things deals with the struggles of pornography. We cannot hide our secrets because at some point they will be exposed. We can never hide from our secrets and the things that we tend to be ashamed of; sometimes we need to fess up to the issues and struggles that we deal with on a daily basis and seek help for them. Our dirty little secrets can control us if we allow them.

3. Frontline: I simply love this song. The band talks about being on the frontline of God’s Army and facing our sins, and evil things head on. This song makes me want to get up and dance and throw my fist in the air when they say “with your fist raised high.” The background music gets you pumped up for whatever is to come and ready to fight off whatever the world has to throw at us to throw us off our path with God.

2. Bring Me Down: Bring Me Down is a song that gets the blood pumping. It starts out talking about how things were in the past and looking at how things have changed. Not looking back and moving foward from the past. The band goes into saying that people cannot bring us down with what they say or try to do. We are strong in our faith and beliefs that no one can bring us down and tear us away from that.

1. Chasing Shadows At Midnight: This is my all time favorite Pillar song. It has inspired many poems based on some of the lyrics such as chasing shadows. I love the way this song starts out, somewhat slow and then it gets faster as the song goes. Sometimes some of us wear our scars on our sleeves, and allow our “shadows” to rule our lives. There are times when our fears are the worst when the sun goes down and we think about things we need to do such as apologize and focus on our shadows which could be past hurts. I love this song. I think it is one of Pillar’s most powerful songs.

Pillar is one of the best Christian rock bands that I have heard in a long time. They have many wonderful songs that touch their fans and leaves them wanting more. When i first heard Pillar it took everything in me to not hunt down every album they have produced. Their songs are generally rock based, but they do have their ballads which give something to their discography and makes the band even better. They can step out of their usual sound and do something totally different but still have a fan base that loves their music.
