Summer is barbecue season which can be intimidating to the vegan newbie. It’s time for carnivores to hit large amounts of animal meat on the grill and fill the hot summer air with smoked family dinners. Seasoned vegans (like me) tend to be grateful that everyone tells you that barbecues are not to be missed or even boring.
My husband, aka the Vegan Grill Master, just adores barbecue season. I rush everything in the kitchen, and the husband happily stays on the grill. Our first year as a vegan, we avoided the grill and mostly chopped greens and tofu. Thankfully we cracked our shell and broke out. We absolutely love grilling different foods and making new creations. Our BBQ recipe list now has hundreds of recipes but here are a few that we love to make every year.
1. Yukon Gold White Basil Burgensis Bean Mama Piso . This recipe is new to our recipe catalog, but it has turned into one of my favorites. Basically, the burger recipe combines the whole American potato, inexpensive white beans and basil (which is abundant throughout the summer). It has a creamy center with a crisp crust. It’s a recipe that you can make a few times and then swap out with your family’s spices and herbs. It is just an amazing recipe from the Pisa and Lorem-You Website.
2. Extreme BBQ Tofu from Vegan Dad. Another family favorite that can be made as an original recipe written or changed with your family’s favorite flavors. Vegan dad does an amazing job in finding a good middle ground between parents and children because he tries all recipes on his children and wife. There is no result for me, but it is a result that is easy but also done with ease.
3. BBQ Seitan Ribz by Fat Free Vegan. I’m not sure if you can officially consider yourself vegan until you try at least one of the Fat Free Vegan recipes. This recipe was created by Fat Free Vegan (Susan) and literally hit the internet within minutes. There is a recipe that takes the vital wheat gluten and creates a mock Ribz dinner that can be thrown on the grill. Ribz have great flavor and take much less time than the carnivorous equivalent, which usually requires a few days of preparation before being thrown on the grill. Everyone should be able to set it free and easy or not.
4. Veganized Korean Bulgogi Genki Kitty. Sometimes you want to deviate from tradition American recipe something with an Asian flavor on the barbecue. What better way to celebrate BBQ season than with Korean-barbecue? The recipe was converted from a traditional Korean recipe into a veganized version. It requires mock beef strips that you can make at home with Vital wheat gluten or purchase pre-made versions from health food such as Whole Foods Trader and Trader Joe’s. The perfect dinner is simple, easy and delicious.
5. Hearty Barbeque Beans by the Cancer Project. This is the recipe that I feel across the Fourth of July. In Midwestern states, barbecue baked beans are seen on the table for BBQ parties. Unfortunately, baked beans usually contain meat. Thankfully, the Cancer Project has created this delicious recipe that involves protein-packed beans that also happen to be low-calorie for those who need a little reduction to get lean swimming cause The only “special” ingredient that is hard to find over the counter is Lima beans. We do ours without them, but no one notices their absence. Make sure to shop around to convince yourself that baked beans are vegan.
6. Creamy Avocado Potato Salad Isa Chandra This is another website, with the Isa Chandra’s cookbooks, that I check the daily. It has one-of-the-world gems of unique flavor, unlike other vegan lifestyle brands on the market. There is no such thing as a different trigger. This recipe looks like a traditional potato salad which combines egg and mayonnaise, but the vegan version raises the bar for taste. A must-have side dish for all your barbecue parties this summer.
7. BBQ Pizza by Genki Kitty (http://genkikitty.wordpress.com/2011/07/22/how-to-make-bbq-pizza/) Another tasty grill treat that will appeal to carnivore, vegan, vegetarian, and adult; kids and also furry care will be to the smell and look of decaying. It is simple, and can be combined and found with each and every one of your things. What is best is that it can be prepared on the grill, so that you are no longer standing in the hot kitchen or waiting for delivery pizza e ia> man to arrive
8. Tempeh BBQ Sandwiches I can’t connect so easily that you can’t connect the website to another version of the person. Simply buy a package of tempeh from your local health food or grocery store and divide into four corners. Put it on the grill for about two minutes on each side, so that it gets a lot of black grill marks. Pour the BBQ sauce over the top and serve on a plate or platter. In under 5 minutes, enjoy!
9. Portobello Burgenses are another favorite in our family. Simply take clean, de-stem Portobello mushrooms and put them on the grill. A few minutes on each side is all your work before the burger is complete. You can put mushrooms on a plate of couscous, millet or other pre-cooked grain and it can be a low calorie BBQ dinner. If you don’t mind having a few more calories, go ahead and put the mushroom on the plate with some lettuce, tomato and onion and it can be a full meal.
10. Grilled Vegetables are also So make it simple and make it into a full meal. Toss bread, corn on the cob, whole okra and so on on the grill. Go to local farmers market and you will find the freshest ingredients in season and play around with vegetables to make a meal. If you’re a little more adventurous, go ahead and pour your favorite BBQ vegetable sauce on it and make it an extra special treat.
