I live in Houston and frequent many wine bars there. But I also travel a lot to wineries and with Austin being so close it’s a frequent destination. What I love about Austin is it has a great eclectic music scene. Wine paired with some of the top bars in Austin, this is definitely a great way to spend a weekend especially when it’s a beautiful day and time to take a bike for a jaunt. Some of my favorite Austin Wine Bars include:
Max’s Wine Dive located at 207 San Jacinto Blvd is known for its food and wine. My beloved Houston, I couldn’t resist the temptation as the Austin place was not about good and disappointing. The recommended Beringer Horse Valley Cabernet was good but not one of my favorites. I also had a summer sangria, which was refreshing and perfect on a hot summer day. TAZ Pinot Gris recommended another wine. Although priced at approximately $25 a bottle, Max will sell each bottle by the glass with a 2-glass minimum commitment.
Morus located at 360 Walnut Street has a great selection of food and wine. The food includes cheese and meat dishes, which are created by the art of the dish. Wine by the glass or bottle are available. I tasted Querciabello Chianti Classico, a Tuscan red, that is full body and delicious. Cru les Greves Nicolas Potel Nuits St. George is lovely too. I’m not a fan of many white wines, but I’ve heard great things about the Cloudy Bay Sauvignon and probably. I’ll have to try again when I’m there in the warmer months.
Vino Vino at 4119 Guadalupe was voted “Best Place to Sip Wine in Austin” by the Austin Chronicle. In addition to these things that drew me to livelive music to combine two of my passions. The Domaine Thénard 2006 Givry Les Bois Chevaux Premier Cru was incredible as was the Louis Perdrier Brut Rosé, a sparkling rosé that was really good, although a tad different from what I typically prefer. This is a great place to try delicious wines at prices ranging from budget to luxury, and listen to some of the best local acts available. in various kinds of music.
House Wine at 408 Josephine offers wine tasting, live music, free WiFi, great ambiance and some incredible specials. They have a great selection of meats, cheeses and meats to complement your wine selections perfectly. They have wines by the glass and bottle. The one I had was Footbalt Shiraz which was recommended by a friend. I really enjoyed that. I’ve also had their sangria multiple times and it’s perfect on a hot day.
Tasting Room and Wine Bar is located at 900 E 7th Street, and they have a great selection of food and wine. They have light appetizers, desserts and of course meat and cheese dishes. I loved the well designed wine menu. All wines are produced with their own type, sweetness, body, fruit and non-fruit flavors. This makes it ideal for those who do not know the wines but what they like. I had a Ventisquero Reserva Pinot Noir which was great and everything I had hoped for as a long time fan of Chilean wines. Lily dessert wine Australia was also really good. While I didn’t try any, I noticed that they have a decent selection of Texas wines and they have a few too. Texas beers as well.
Austin residents have a great selection of wine labels, but even those in neighboring cities like Houston and San Antonio should jump at the chance I drove Indulge in a glass of wine before or after checking out all that Austin night life has to offer or attend one of the wine chains feature live music.
