When I was in high school I remember bringing comic books to school with me and reading them during class. I was often mocked because comic books just weren’t cool. That all began to change in 2000 when the X-men movie hit the big screen and comic books became okay to read. Unfortunately I was one year removed from high school by then and couldn’t rub it in the faces of all the people who made fun of me. Nonetheless reading comic books are now acceptable and the X-Men have become a very popular movie, TV, comic book, and toy franchise. So for all of you X-men fans here are a couple of fan sites for you.
UncannyXmen.Net
UncannyXmen.Net is your place to go for any and all information regarding the X-men comic books and comic book characters. There is a section called Issue summaries where you can search any X-men related comic book and find a summary for each issue. Another section is the Crossovers section. Crossovers are stories that take place over several different titles and the Crossovers section is great for reading about a certain crossover and is especially helpful because it tells you what order to read the comics in. Another section, the X-Universe section, tells you all about important races and objects in the X-men comics.
However the best part of UncannyX-men.Net is without a doubt the Cerebro Files and Spotlight section. In the comic and the movies Cerebro is a device that Professor X has to detect and learn about mutants. So the Cerebro Files section of UncannyX-men.Net tells you all about each character. The Cerebro Files include bios on 1,819 characters with information such as real name, first appearance, powers and abilities and other notes. The Spotlight section goes a step further by providing a very in-depth biography of certain characters. These spotlights include vital stats like height, weight, hair color, eye color, powers and relatives. The vital stats are followed by the biography which is sometimes 5 to 7 pages long. After the biography is an issue checklist that lists some of the comics that character has appeared in. Finally the spotlight section has a costume gallery that shows each version of that character’s costumes, which can often be a whole lot of different versions.
Beyond Evolution
Beyond Evolution is a fan site dedicated to the X-Men’s most recent cartoon X-Men Evolution. In this incarnation of the X-Men the characters are teenagers rather than adults. The popular X-Men Evolution show lasted 4 seasons. On Beyond Evolution you can find a lot of helpful information. There is an episode guide that gives summaries of each episode. Other sections include an Image Gallery from the cartoon as well as fan art that fans have sent in. There are links to other X-Men sites, a place to buy merchandise, profiles on the X-Men Evolution characters, music clips, video clips and even a section on the X-Men Evolution comic book based on the TV series. There is also an X-Men Evolution forum so you can chat to other X-Men Evolution fans.
X-Menfilms.net
X-menfilms.net is a fan site dedicated to the X-Men movies. The best part of X-Menfilms.net is the news they provide on upcoming X-men related movies. They kept everyone up to date on the first three X-men movies. Now that the X-men movies are completed they are providing news on the upcoming Wolverine and Magneto movies. X-Menfilms.net also provides Photos, cast information, a forum, and links. Sometimes X-Menfilms.net also runs polls such as your favorite death in an X-men movie or your favorite kiss in an X-men movie.
FanFiction.net
Fanfiction or fanfic, is a term used for fiction about a certain franchise already created that is written by fans of the original work. In this case X-men fanfics would be written by some ordinary Joe rather than someone who actually writes for Marvel. Fancfiction.net is the biggest collection of Fanfiction on the internet. The X-men are a very popular topic in fanfiction and on this site. In the cartoon section there are over 10,000 fanfics about X-Men: Evolution. In the movie section there are over 7,000 fanfics and in the comics section there are another 7,000. So if you’re looking for some creative writing about your favorite characters then try some fanfic and see if you like it.
