Traditional Hanukkah Meal Recipes – Potato Latkes

One of my best friends and my future family member is Jewish. I have known her for several years, and I had the pleasure of dining with her during the holidays, and I also cooked for her, as I always try to make all my guests comfortable. I have a great curiosity for different religions and when I had the opportunity to learn about Hanukkah from my friend, I was happy at the opportunity, I also really enjoy cooking and I enjoy learning about cooking form all countries and cultures.

My friend taught me that among the Hanukkah foods they were boiled in oil to commemorate the miracle of the temple’s lasting eight years of oil. days He told me that’s why they eat a lot of fried foods at this time.

Two of the traditional Hanukkah foods I have learned to make are the potato latkes which are typically potato pancakes and sufhaniyoti. like jelly donuts extra thick.

Here is the recipe and the method I use to prepare the sweet potato

small or large green peppers

1 large carrot

1 large stalk of celery

4 medium potatoes

1 medium onion

Eggs 3

3/4 cup Matzah flour)

salt and black pepper to taste

the vegetable oil is enough to rise in about an inch in the oil.

To ready:

Chop the parsnips, and chop the green pepper and celery into small pieces. Then chop the onion and chop the potatoes (food processor) for all of these if you like.

Break the eggs, and add to the vegetable mixture, and stir in the Matzah Flour. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Pour the oil into the pan oil and turn the heat to low enough to start heating the oil. They begin to heat the oil from the potato mixture. The process is kind of like making a hamburger patty, you take a punch and shape it into a ball and shape. then squish it.

Put the patties in the pan with the oil, you can do about 3 at a time. Wait until the first side is golden brown, then flip over and cook the other side. You will be tempted to turn more, but don’t. Just cook them until they are golden brown on both sides.

Cover the plate with some paper towel, and gently remove it from the oil and let it rest on the plate. bl.

Serve with sour cream or applesauce.

I know it’s not traditional, but I made them a few times and they were really good.

As a short cut, you can use pre-packaged potatoes sold in grocerystores to make an omelet.
