Transformers Movie Toy Review: Blackout

Since the Transformers movie is scheduled to be released on the 4th of July, there are many action figures that are released before its opening. One of the action figures is Blackout, a Pave Low military helicopter that transforms into a giant robot. There is a Blackout Voyager Class Transformer that sells for $19.99 in most places. Blackout is a Decepticon.

Blackout is a really good in-vehicle mode with no real bugs to speak of. It is a great size, but will not fit with any other Transformers toys. Blackout comes with a tiny Scorponok figure that fits into a cage that is on the back of the helicopter’s fuselage. There is a button that opens a cage so that a small figure of Scorponok can be dropped from the helicopter. There is also a button on the tip of the tail on the back of the helicopter that rotates the top of the rotor blade.

Along with Blackout interacting with the small Scorponok figure that is included, Blackout also interacts with the large Deluxe Class Scorponok figure that is sold separately (or sold together as a Toys R’ Us exclusive). You can attach Scorponok to the bottom of the Blackout fuselage action figures, and then when you press the button that spins the rotors on the helicopter, the button also claws Scorponok will make hands and also spin the inside of the chest.

One aspect of Blackout that may be a problem for some is that it is quite complicated to transform. There are many parts that move him from vehicle to robot mode and therefore they are not the best gifts for . little boy

Blackout’s robot mode isn’t as good as vehicle mode, but it’s not bad. Movement is good in all articles. Although she has huge shoulders, her shoulders are very thin and don’t really get in the way of any of her other figures. The paint application is a little off but not too bad overall. His face could have been done better, because it was washed with black ink, without applying any paint. If he painted the face, he would add positive things about this figure. His eyes are red plastic tubing that shines with light behind them but because the parts are behind his back. head, the light doesn’t really fall through them the right way, so it doesn’t really burn well.

When Blackout changes into robot mode, the rear end of the helicopter hangs from the back of his head. This makes a kind of tripod, which, being thus transformed, is inconvenient when standing. Some derogate from this plan. Actually, I think it’s kind of like a cape. Luckily the back is cut off and can be used as a weapon. When it comes out, you can put it in Blackout’s hand as a huge weapon with shoulder blades of death sphere. The rotors are said to stand in the shape of the steel grinder in the package. The weapon should be more impressive and if it were less cool, it could be considered overkill.

When Blackout is in robot form, he is slightly smaller than the other Voyager Class Transformers, yet slightly larger than the Deluxe Class. I think the reason why that robot mode is smaller than the others is because when it’s in helicopter mode it’s as long as a Voyager Class size box, so there’s no way to make it bigger. The size is really good because overall it’s a really good action.

One cool feature of the Blackout robot mod is that there are pins on each shoulder that you can attach Minicon Transformers to. And this only brings me to the point of disappointment. The Scorponok figure that comes with this Blackout figure is a cheap hunk of plastic. Considering that Blackout is smaller than the other Voyager Class Transformers, you’d think he’d made a minifigure of Scorponok. Instead there are two solid pieces of plastic with the only moving part being its tail, which just goes down. There is no paint job on Scorponok either, just dry black paint.

Blackout, I think is the best Transformers helicopter I’ve seen. The price tag might not buy some, but I think it’s worth the price, even with the sub-par Scorponok figure.
