Trinidad Colorado – The Scenic Highway of Legends

I had the opportunity to spend ten days in the historic town of Trinidad, Colorado. The town was filled with friendly, if somewhat reserved, populous towns. By not attending to business, you have the opportunity to discover what Trinidad and southern Colorado have to offer. Trinity is a small town of about 10,000 souls going about their business in an efficient but hurried manner. I-25 runs from west of town carrying travelers either to New Mexico to the south or to Denver and points beyond to the north. Trinity is the midpoint between Albuquerque and Denver. Not all of them stop in Trinidad like the 25-year-old, but they do enough that the city can boast of having almost half a million visitors a year. It is a great Santa Fe Trail history guide. You entered the town of Hosts from the Santa Fe Trail. The museum tells the story of the 1870’s Baca era in the houses of Santa Fe. Trinity is also known to have had its sheriff Bat Masterson at one time time The town is also known to play a historic business in the city This area was slowly but surely restored. It’s a full weekend to see. An interesting mural is located at the Matthew San Rapheal Hospital and depicts the history of Trinidad. The Coal Miners Memorial in the city honors those who worked in the nearby coal mines which were once the largest part of the Trinity economy. If you don’t mind walking, you can take the Trinity Trolley which offers free tours all day. There is plenty to do in Trinity and the people are helpful and very nice.

One thing people have suggested is that I do a beat on a thing called Road Legends. Saturday morning I got up and headed west from Trinidad taking highway 12 which would turn out to be one of the most beautiful drives you’ll ever take I have About an hour later I ended up in Stonewall.
I needed something to drink so I stopped at the Picketwire Store where I met the owners Dallas and Michael. They were very friendly and gave me further parts. I went through the gap at Stonewall, the famous sandstone wall that towers above. In another fifteen minutes I came to the Monument Lake and where the inhabitants were fishing. They instructed me that it was up before the said Cuchara pass, which is the highest point on the road Hi 12 in its descent to Cuchara. I could see the Spanish peaks in the distance and they were a sight to behold. The West Spanish Peak has 13,626 and its sister peak, the East Spanish Peak at 12683. I was just in San Isabel . Cuchara reminded me of old cowboy town full of profanity. We plan to spend some time there especially at the Dog Bar Saloon. I. than I asked La Veta. Mother Nature must be showing off, because this is the most beautiful town I’ve seen in a long time. La Veta is a big village full of friendly people, old shops and an old Spanish fort. I was getting late so I didn’t stay long but headed to Walsenburg where I got on Interstate 25 on my way to Trinidad.

If you enjoy the beautiful country, and not in a hurry, let me take the way of the Fables. They are all friends along the way and the view is nothing short of incredible.
