Turning Sweet 16 – A Poem

Sixteen years ago you were born into this world,
Your parents dream come true, they had their baby girl.

As the months went by you grew hair the color of the sun,
Going from infant to crawling baby, and then you were one!

With every birthday celebrated you have turned another page,
As the story of your life unfolds with every passing age.

From precocious toddler, then to kindergarten where you were all on your own,
On to elementary and high school, where you were always on your phone!

No longer a child, or a grown woman…you’re somewhere in between,
Yet you’ve accomplished so much, being barely out of your teens.

Now you’ll be asking dad for his car keys and mom for her perfume,
This is the springtime of your life and you’re a flower that has bloomed.

You should know that as you get older you start to live some of life’s truths,
Losing more of your innocence as you shed more of your youth.

But…You are blessed with a nature that is sweet, generous and kind,
That is something you will never lose as you leave your childhood behind.

You have grown into a mature young lady leaving adolescents in the past,
The years have brought you to this moment, you are sweet 16 at last!
