Madeleine McCann went missing on May 3, 2007, a few days before her birthday while vacationing in Portugal with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann and their twin 2-year-old son and daughter. The McCanns said he disappeared from an apartment they frequented in Praia da Luz while they were dining at a nearby restaurant with several friends.
During the course of the evening, several lunch children watched the party, about every 30 minutes. . The children were sleeping in McCann’s house, several hundred yards from the restaurant where McCann and their friends dined.
One of the many perplexing aspects of the Madeleine abduction case is why we heard nothing about that evening from friends who had dinner with Kate and Gerry McCann last night< Abduction of Madeleine? Apparently, the Portuguese police warned the seven friends not to discuss anything with anyone. Russell O’Brien and Jane Tanner are two of the friends the police have expressed interest in. However, Mr. O’Brien excused himself from the dinner table 30 or so minutes before McCann’s credit for Madeleine disappeared. The police’s interest in Ms Tanner stems from a claim she saw a man taking a child out of McCann’s apartment.
Another party to the dinner, Matthew Oldfield, was said to have checked in on the McCann son an hour before Madeleine was reported. McCann’s friends are adamant that they have not made a pact of silence nor are they withholding any evidence that McCann may have pointed to in Madeleine’s abduction. They argue that they are only following orders, not acting on the police’s behalf.
The McCanns have been called key suspects in the case of Madeleine’s abduction by police in Portugal. McCann told Portuguese police that Kate McCann had been offered a plea deal if she would confess to having killed Madeleine “by accident”. The couple were troubled by this development and continuously denied their involvement in any way with Madeleine’s abduction. The McCanns have repeatedly complained that naming them as key suspects in the case takes time and attention away from Madeleine’s abduction and further hinders Madeleine’s return to her family.
Despite the worldwide attention and publicity of Richard Branson, Virgin President, J.K. Rowling and David Beckham no major break in the case of Madeleine.
In October 2007, the first break in the case occurred when a plastic clothing bag was found near the Fargo airport. Portugal. The airport is about 75 miles from the site of Madeleine’s abduction and the clothes in the bag reportedly yielded a DNA link to Madeleine. Also a pair of adult pants and a fleece that allegedly had traces of body fluid and hair with a part of Madeleine’s DNA
In November 2007, the McCanns returned to their home country of England with their twins. Gerry resumed his work as a cardiologist in an area hospital in London.
Today the McCanns released letters from a man they believe could be linked to Madeleine’s abduction. A woman recalled seeing a suspicious man around the resort in Portugal where Madeleine disappeared on May 15. A spokesman for the family said: “We are looking for who he is and we want to know where he is.”
The first drawing is of an olive skinned white man with muscle. Her hair was collar length, dark and luscious. This check was made according to what I remember the woman. She was staying at a farm near the McCann family during Madelein’s absence.
The second sketch depicts a very handsome looking man wearing a green shirt and brown pants. This model was developed from the reports of Gail Cooper, who first saw the man on April 20. He said that he stood out because he was walking on a deserted beach during a heavy rain. Later that same day, Cooper reports that he saw the same man come to her home on the beach to collect them. money near the orphanage. A few days later, the man was spotted with the children at the beach in a small area, according to a spokesperson for McCann.
Cooper had not heard of Madeleine’s disappearance until he returned to Britain at which time he gave a police report about the man and Cooper’s police report was passed on to the Portuguese. When McCann’s writer showed Cooper’s description of Jane Tanner, he said he was the man she had seen taking the boy out of the resort the night Little Madeliene disappeared.
The problem continues. The McCanns believe Madeleine is still alive. They received a lot of help in their efforts to find their daughter from John Walsh and America’s Most Wanted. Gerry McCann met with Walsh shortly after Madeleine’s departure to seek advice on how to go about calling attention to her case.
With the two models explained, there is hope that someone will know who this man is, where he is and what he knows about Madeleine’s abduction.
