One of the most effective ways to catch trout is through the use of ultralight gear and hooks. What does Ultralight weapons and fuel mean? First, it means gear and food that is smaller than you are used to. When you buy rod and reel, you are buying ultra light action, instead of light or medium action. Light beyond the rods and drives are usually smaller and more sensitive than the more serious actions. My personal favorites have always been the Quantum Xtralite series rods and reels because of both their dependability and price, but this is simply my personal preference.
When fishing for ultralight trout your tackle should not be spooled with line heavier than 6 pound test. I personally use four pound test, but six is tolerable. That’s a bigger issue than ultralight fishing. If you think that these sizes are too small, fishing, they are not. Regularly hook and land trout in the 4-5 pound class using 4-mna test monofilament. If you have never had the pleasure of trout this size with ultralight fishing gear and use the bait, let me say, so It’s as fun as dressing up!
When fishing for ultralight trout, your bait should be presented in the most natural way possible. This is best accomplished through the use of group hooks. Clustered hooks are simply a pair of hooks tied together at the end, so as to provide you with a worm live in a totally natural environment just I am asking you please. What do you think trout will bite more, a worm that “threads” on a size 4 hook and now looks like a ball worm, or a worm that has been attached to a set of size 8 or 10 ball hook and looks. how without a hook in it? The answer is that trout are more likely to bite a worm that looks natural. How should I know this? Because for 20 years I’ve been using gang hooks and I’ve seen them fish each hook time after time.
The last thing to remember when fishing for ultralight trout is your drag. Because the tackle is smaller, your net helps you land trout, especially large trout. This seems to me the advice: pull tight to put the hook. Then once the trout is hooked, and how big or small you feel it is, drag accordingly. Your drag is never set in one place and that’s it, especially when fishing ultralight. Your drag should be adjusted as you fight each fish. Doing this results in you landing a fish in a fashion that your opponent can pull and forget about. We’re not dealing with free freakin’ chicken here!
The bottom line is that the most effective and difficult way to catch trout is through the use of ultralight fishing rods and hooks. Using ultraviolet equipment and bait gives you advantages in every way, especially when it comes to those those beautiful fish we call trout. Not only that, but it also makes you a more successful recruiter. Simply start “winching” in the fish will not feel immediately using the ultraviolet gear.
