First, to qualify, you must meet the following basic criteria.

The NYSDOL suggests that you claim unemployment benefits the first week you are fully or partially out of work online or through an automated phone that tells you he walks through the process in various languages other than English. The maximum benefit as of the time of this article (April 2009) is $405 per week.

Once you are eligible to receive benefits, you should continue your weekly benefits online or by phone.
