Second round of the 2009 NFL Mock Draft
1 Detroit Lions- Andy Levitre OG Oregon State
Detroit adds a promising young soldier in Andy Levitre from Oregon State. Game-winners start on the line on both sides of the ball. He should be a slightly good run blocker from the get go and a possible week one rookie starter for the Lions.
2 New England Patriots, D.J. Moore CB Vanderbilt
The Patriots pick this up from the Chiefs in the Matt Cassel/Mike Vrabel trade. The Pats signed Shawn Springs, but Moore has too much talent for them to pass up on.
Saint Louis Rams- Darius Howard-Bey WR Maryland
Yeah I know Bey didn’t fall out of the first round, but in my 2009 draft he does. The Rams need to replace the aging and perhaps soon to be paid Terry Holt. Bey will do it just like that.
4 Cleveland Browns- Herman Johnson OG LSU
The Browns are adding some much needed bulk to Johnson at 6ft 7 385. If he keeps his weight he can be a powerhouse for the Browns can
5 Seahawks-LeSean McCoy RB Pitt
The Seahawks are still trying to replace Alexander, and McCoy is a good runner and receiver out of the pass rush.
6 Cincinnati Bengals- Alphonsus Smith CB, Sixth Forest
Smith may be a tad of reaching this high in the second round, because of his 5ft 9 height. But Smith is a player who is a good tackler despite his size. The Bengals need some defensive players who can make big plays.
7 Jacksonville Jaguars- Shonn Greene RB Iowa
There are some questions about green tires and top speed limit. But the burden is off, and the Jags will be looking to replace Taylor in the RB rotation.
8 Oakland Raiders- Alex Mack C California
The Oakland Raiders add a quality young pitcher who can play guard or center as they try to rebuild their team.
The Cubs are still looking for DBs after DeAngelo Hall didn’t work out. Smith gives them a young angle to explain.
9 Green Bay Packers- Darius Butler CB UCONN
Butler adds youth to an aging secondary for the Packers, and he can double as a kick returner on the ice.
10 Buffalo Bills- Larry English OF Northern Illinois
English can be caught because of the “Tweener” but Bills need bodies and English is a football player With good motor.
11 San Francisco 49ers- Hakeem Nicks WR University of North Carolina
I don’t think they sent him to the 2nd round of the 2009 NFL draft. But Nicks is happy to play and will be a solid wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers.
12 Miami Dolphins- Fili Moala DT USC
Moala fills the need by adding a young defensive tackle. At 6ft 5 and about 295 pounds, he has room to bulk up as a better hole plugger.
13 New York Giants – Donald Brown RB Connecticut
The Giants lost Ward in free agency and resigned Brandon Jacobs. But the Giants like the 3 back rotation and Brown can be the thing.
14 Houston Texans- Jason Phillips LB TCU
Phillips will help by taking care of the linebacking core that didn’t play big in 08. He can probably play any of the Texans’ linebacker spots.
15 New England Patriots – Alabama Safety Rashad Johnson
With Harrison possibly retiring, the Patriots need some depth at the position. Johnson is smart enough and tenacious enough as a rookie to start playing well.
16 Denver Broncos- Danny Beckwith LB LSU
Beckwith will start right way to one of the linebacker spots. Aeneas ultricies, pain and adornment with arrows, unless it is as arrows.
17. Chicago Bears- Mickens CB Cincinnati
A nice addition to the Bears secondary, although a tad slow at the position, he is a solid player.
18 Cleveland (from Tampa) Andre Brown RB NC State
Brown has solid size and impressive speed combined with his scouting. The Browns will be very pleased with this release in the 2009 NFL season.
19 Dallas Cowboys- Patrick Chung S Oregon
Chung fills the void in the Cowboys secondary since the release of Roy Williams. Chung plays bigger than he is and could be a steal here.
20 New York Jets- Brian Robiskie WROhio State
The Jets have stepped up their defense and now it’s time to bring in some help on that side of the ball. Brian Robiskie’s son is a longtime NFL coach and will help Coles rebuild with the Jets.
21 Philadelphia Eagles- Jamon Meredith OTSouth Carolina
Meredith has her 6ft 5in frame to add a few pounds if needed. The Eagles are looking for linemen in free agency, so if they find this quarterback, that could change.
22 Minnesota Vikings – Victor Harris CB Virginia Tech
The Vikes need some young blood in the secondary and Harris isn’t hot but he has good hands, playing receiver. They can also help with income in the game.
23 Atlanta Falcons- Sen’Derrick Marks DT Auburn
Marked just under 5.0 in the 40 yard dash, he adds a nice young DT to the Falcons rotation.
24 Miami Dolphins – Juaquin Iglesias WR Oklahoma
A good solid receiver who will go over the middle and not be afraid to throw a block. Miami needs receivers badly, and Iglesias will be good for them.
25 Baltimore Ravens- Derrick Williams WRPenn State
The Ravens need help at receiver and Williams will provide that. I was tempted to go LB again in this 2009 NFL draft, but they need help on offense as well.
26 New England Patriots- Kraig Urbik OL Wisconsin
Urbik is big and can play guard or tackle and makes the Patriots a versatile player.
27 Carolina Panthers- Michael Johnson OF Georgia Tech
Julius Peppers can be in trading or day trading as he wants from Carolina. Even if Peppers remains a Panther, the team needs defensive linemen. Johnson is tall and can add weight to help in run support. Nice to have a late pick in the 2nd round of the NFL draft.
28 New York Giants- Louis Delmas FS Western Michigan
Delmas is a tad small, but he will stick his nose in it and grab it. Also a good defender who can take all when he picks one.
29 Indianapolis Colts- Alex Mack C Cal
They need younger chicks and better lines. Mack is the best center in the draft and can play guard until Jeff Saturday retires or leaves the team.
30 Titans – Cody Brown OF UCONN
Brown can do better in a 3-4 as he is a tweener, but the Titans need D line help and Brown can rush the passer.
31 Arizona Cardinals- William Moore SS Missouri
Moore’s stock has dropped a bit, but this could be good for the Arizona Cardinals who need some help on defense.
32 Pittsburgh Steelers- Trevor Canfield G Cincinnati
Trevor Canfield is the type of tight end that will help the Steelers both in their running and offensive line. On the field, the race issues have dropped a bit, but it seems to have been fixed.
