Vent-Free Gas Heaters, Should You Own One?

They also contain an ODS or oxygen depletion system, meaning that if the oxygen levels drop below a certain level in the enclosed chamber, it will shut down. This type is the safest available.

Infrared gas heaters

Infrared heaters contain a sheet of gray ceramic that glows orange when heated. This type of heat is called burning heat. Infrared heat is just like the sun, it diffuses infrared energy to objects in the room. It heats you, the furniture, the floor, or other things in the immediate area. Be careful not to place objects near or in front of such heaters. They could overheat over time and create a fire hazard. Always read the manual and safety warnings before using any heating application.

Heating flame

Blue flame heaters contain a bar type hollow burner that produces a wide array of blue flames. This type of heater is a convection type heater. Rather than heating the room, it heats the air in the room, as most gas heating systems do. This type of heater is safer in smaller areas, because it does not heat, but the air. Volt-Freti Gas Tables

There are many different brands of logs on the market. Prices can vary widely. You can always buy free wood. The logs are not 99.9% efficient as they are vent-free logs. Also, your stove damper should be closed in the fully open position. Most of the heat comes out of the fireplace.

Gas-vent-free logs are available as free standing logs and a burner that is placed in an existing fireplace. Also, they are available as a free-standing unit complete with case and wooden mantle. This type can be placed against the standard wall of the room. As with the other heaters listed here, they do not require a power source. Many people enjoy the look of a gas fireplace or unit over the other two types listed here. Gas logs are also a convection type of heater.

Supplemental Specimen or Emergency Heat

All these types of heaters will also provide a nice warm temperature, even during power outages. Some do not require electrical power to operate. All are very effective, being 99.9 percent accurate. Whereas most other heating systems are only 70-80 percent efficient and have to be scrapped outside. They are available with an optional screwdriver, but they don’t have it to work. They are available as Natural Gas or LP (propane). There are many Dual Fuel heaters, meaning they can work with both materials. Adjustments must be made to the heater by qualified gas first before changing the fuel. These heaters should always be installed by a qualified gas contractor. This cannot be done at home. If Natural Gas or LP is already available in your home, this is the best choice to supplement heat or as an emergency heat Since gas is already in your home, your installation is usually not very expensive.

The types of vent-free heaters listed here come in sizes rated by BTU output. Small heaters are usually rated at 15-200,000BTU. This size is good for small to medium rooms. Larger 30-40,000BTU units are best for a large room, or several medium sized rooms.
