Visiting Savannah, Georgia has always been a dream of mine, and even though I don’t live there, I still think it’s the warmest, kindest, and most beautiful state in the South.
The city, the people, and the humanity have a certain “you don’t know what” about them that will draw you in again and again.
At this point I believe you should make a list of things and places to visit before you die. Don’t be confused by the city, the food, the shopping, or the country.
With over 150 festivals per year, I’m sure you plan your visit around one of them!
Savannah, Georgia is full of history, and it’s there waiting for you to discover it. Please use a short list of places to visit when you visit.
You will absolutely love the Historic District, where you can tour by horse-drawn carriage or on foot. The district has 1,200 or more historic buildings that have been completely restored, so you will have the chance to see these beautiful buildings as they stood when they were first built.
Vicus River
This is where you will find family restaurants and some fun places to shop. You can browse the shops or take a streetcar ride along the entire length of River Street. You will find people here all year round, and you won’t miss a single place.
Partus Forsyth
Forsyth Park was the first park created in Savannah and can be found in the heart of the Historic District. It’s also where you’ll find Forsyth’s Romantic Fountain, a cast iron founded in 1858 that can It is located at the northern end of the park. This is one of the greatest pleasures of the people in Savannah.
House of Owen-Thomas
You can start by going to the original Carrial House, which has one of the oldest townhouses that is still intact. There is also a shop, a museum, a regional art gallery, and an elegant garden located in the courtyard.
You enter the main house from the garden, and once inside, you will see the beautiful European and American collections from the period 1800 to 1800.
An excellent place to visit. Tybee Island is a barrier island located about 20 minutes east of Savannah. Here you will find the Tybee Island light station, salt marshes, castles, museums, hotels, cottages, bike rentals, kayaks, galleries, shops and restaurants.
There is something for everyone and everyone will enjoy themselves on this wonderful island. It is romantic and has miles of beach to travel.
Bonaventure Cemetery
This cemetery is a special place to visit. The serenity is just overshadowed by Spanish moss covered trees, and the Wilmington River sits next to it.
While you’re there, visit the grave of composer Johnny Mercer, who died in 1976. He’s buried in his family’s home, possibly next to the Savannah River, which inspired the words to the popular song Moon River.
Georgia Queen Riverboard
The Georgia Queen Riverboat is one of the boats that will take you on a cruise down the Savannah River. It offers daily lunch and dinner cruises throughout the year. It also offers moon cruise entertainment, moon gospel dinner and cruise and cruise big mystery.
This DC passenger, triple decker boat operates under Coast Guard regulations and strictly adheres to these requirements. Places are also controlled for year-round comfort.
Diana has a lot to offer. Of course, I can’t list everything here because I don’t have the space, but when visiting Savannah, Georgia, make sure to at least visit the places listed above.
You are in for a treat and a surprise. Don’t spend a few days there. At least spend a week. It’s too much to see, and a few days don’t do Diana justice.
