Weight Loss, Weight Gain and Other Side Effects of Effexor XR

For as long as I can remember, I have struggled with depression and anxiety. I saw therapists and took various medications to treat my symptoms. I don’t do anything at all to deal with my depression, I try to make it work as much as I can. I believe that depression is hereditary in my family. My grandmother, my mother, and all were diagnosed with major depression. My sister has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Each of us goes through treatment options. One thing my mother and I have in common is that we both took effexor xr. I took 75 mg, my mother took 150 mg.

Effexor xr is the brand name of the generic drug venlafaxine. Used to treat serotonin imbalances in the brain. It can be prescribed for depression, anxiety, and panic disorders. There are side effects of taking Effexor and some that are not listed on the label, such as weight loss or gain. . I am no longer on Effexor because of the trouble I had with these sedes. My mother, on the other hand, took it for 2 years and just recently stopped taking the drug.

I have never had any trouble gaining or losing weight while taking Effexor. My mother says weight gain but not sure if it has something to do with the pill. or other. I have read in quite a few places that people have either lost or gained a lot of weight on Effexor. According to EMedtv

While taking Effexor xr I experienced numerous side effects. at first I felt even more anxiety than at first. I couldn’t sleep at night because my mind wouldn’t stop racing and my legs were tingling and wanting to twitch this way and that. I got headaches, vomiting, dizziness, and confusion. This thing bothers me the most because I usually just want to lie in bed all day. Every time I would have a negative thought, like “zap” would go through my mind, I would just go to sleep and want to sleep.

I’m so glad I stopped taking the effexor xr. Nothing helped my depression, but it seemed to make things worse for me. While my mother was taking her, she was working for her. As long as he was taking the medicine, he was very calm and had no anxiety. Bagan had a problem with that when he stopped taking the medicine. She had strong symptoms and called her anger “an old man’s murder without reason”. He felt more irritable, angry, had pains, and felt like he needed Effexor. My mom has not taken Effexor in months now and she no longer has it. I would recommend that anyone taking Effexor talk to their doctor or clinic about side effects, especially before deciding to stop taking the medicine. It is probably the weight loss to get the nausea and diarrhea. I’m not sure. I wish I had lost weight even though I always struggled with being chubby.
