Make no mistake: P90x is for real. There are a plethora of workout DVDs on the market that are questionable and often ridiculous; but having purchased, reviewed, and incorporated P90x into your own routine, I’m here to tell you that it is legitimate.
What I’m going to do is inform you of what you should consider when purchasing this program. It is a time consuming and moderately expensive business, if the desire is strong enough to achieve good results to maintain the lesson. There are a few things you should not expect.
First of all, it’s way more expensive than just buying DVDs and books. You can find DVDs on eBay or from people who bought them and later found out that it was quite complicated. The going price is around $130 new. Where the P90x makes money is by having all the accessories available to it when you order it to pull the bar; Stretch bands, recovery bars, recovery drinks, etc. Your initial purchase could easily run $300 if you fully equip yourself.
Having been in the gym for more than 25 years, I knew that most, if not all, of these costs could easily be avoided. People sell their workout equipment in classifieds and sales all the time sales. This is the best place to bring them.
Second, prepare for a diet plan. It requires that you acquire a lot of food and preparation consumes a lot of time. I just couldn’t do it, due to time and budgetary constraints. Again I knew how to eat well and wasn’t overweight so it wasn’t a big deal to me.
Time is another huge issue. It’s a six day workout routine, so if you’re ready to redo this whole schedule around this program it’s best to leave it alone. What’s more, in the third part of the final training, you are asked to do a split for a month, which is a two-day workout. Children having two jobs, or body work or just being very busy is not conducive to this to complete the project.
The final things to consider is the skillful nature of the workouts. The level of exhaustion is intense, which means that doing something else out of the ordinary for the body is likely to be counterproductive. I myself did a woodworking work from home job and I immediately knew it would be a conflict. More exercise is a real issue with this exercise.
Having said that, I recommend this practice, but only if you want to make the huge sacrifices required of him. You will see the results. Although I wasn’t able to complete the workout exactly as described, I incorporated the principles into existing workouts with great results.
