Recently, I was reading MidWeek, a local weekly newspaper in my area and a weekly publication of The Honolulu Star Bulletin, and I noticed a rather insulting article. It was by conservative pseudo pundit/fake journalist/IRL troll blogger Michelle Malkin.
This brings two issues to my mind. One, the local Media in Hawaii is absurdly biased with a right-leaning twist. And of course, I will eventually get into the reasons for that another time. And two… I never heard of Michelle Malkin. I have a lot of disdain for FOX NEWS personally, so I never knew she was a fill in host for Bill O’Reilly, and upon learning that I knew right then and there her style and what she stands for. But upon even more research I have found out more than I wanted to.
Michelle Malkin was born to presumeably legal immigrant Filipino parents. Born in Philadelphia, and raised in South Jersey. Now, being that I am of partial Filipino ancestry and that I grew up in New York City, there was always a running joke with my Filipino circle of friends regarding those Filipinos in Jersey. Everytime bizarre behavior or just plain sneaky, snide, and catty actions were noticed the excuse was “She/He is a Filipino from Jersey.” Laugh out loud and the conversation moved on. Yet she is a rare breed. An ethnic Filipino Conservative (dichotomy #1) woman (dichotomy #2) After attending Parochial ( and continuing to remain Roman Catholic dichotomy #3) high school she attended a generally liberal Oberlin College (dichotomy #4). From there she met her husband, Jesse Malkin, who is a Jew. (dichotomy #5)
Malkin’s idea of “journalism” is nothing more than selectively cutting and pasting articles, provided gross out-of-context interpretations of such articles, stalking around recipients of government aid, and an arsenal of pretentious name calling to anyone who challenges her. Where did this woman come from and how did she ascend to such (un)popularity? I would suppose she believes herself to be the next Connie Chung or Lisa Ling. (regardless of Chung’s ethics- she is still much more skilled at journalism than Malkin is) However, her behavior only sets back the progress of Asian descended women in the media. With her vile and mean spirited mud-slinging she is an embrassment to well spoken Americans- or any form of human life across the galaxy. She apparently lacks originality as her television hosting skills are the Filipino non-union ripoff of Bill O’Reilly, and her column lacks any sort of meaningful information- cold hard facts without digging up the past to make a point, or insideous name calling. Sounds like the Filipino non-union equivalent of Ann Coulter.
To her credit (or some ghostwriter’s…the world may never know) she has written several books, one of which I managed to see at the local bookstore a few days ago. In her book Unhinged she manages to waste actual paper with childish mudslinging and rants about the democrats and left, instead of sticking to facts. Another one In Defense of Internment which is apparently linking the national security issues of WW2 and the present. And another Invasion: HowAmerica Still Welcomes Terrorists.
Is she insane? Comparing the atrocities of World War 2 to the September 11th attacks? There is no comparison. The world stage was silent on the issues of the Holocaust and the Rape of Nanking. It wasn’t until after the war was won (by the death of thousands of innocent people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki) that the general public learned of the true horrific actions that took place in the Nazi death camps and in the fallen capital of Nanking. As someone who watched the smoke from his rooftop on September 11th, I can’t compare that to the war crimes of World War 2. Two separate pieces, Malkin. Malkin is one of those kind of morons who believe that this country should profile people because of their race, religion, and whatever other factors seem to threaten White America.
Earth to Malkin: if the ASPCA or PETA where to do racial profiling for suspects of inhumane treatment of canines, you’d be the first to be locked up.
I will be further monitoring Malkin and her views, because not only do I need a good laugh, but because ignoring her would mean that one day she can’t be caught in a dichotomy she created.
