Where to Get Free IPod Touch Applications

Where to download iPod Touch Applications for Free.

The iPod Touch is an MP3/multimedia portable device developed by Apple Computers. The iPod Touch looks like Apple’s iPhone but functions like their popular line of iPod music players.

As the name suggests, users touch the screen to interact with the device and control on screen prompts and applications. Applications are small programs that can range from games and weather software to productivity and problem solving software.

Many third party companies today produce hundreds, if not thousands, of applications for the iPod Touch and the iPhone. Some of these applications cost money but there are some that are available for free.

Here are some ways to get free apps on the iPod touch.

From the Apple iTunes Apps store:

This is the best way to get free applications for your iPod or iPhone. You know you will be getting a quality application by downloading it direct from the iTunes Apps Store. The risk of getting a virus or spyware filled program is greatly reduced when downloading directly from Apple.

Launch iTunes on your computer. If you do not have iTunes, you can download and install it for free from http://www.apple.com/itunes . Once installed, open iTunes and click on “iTunes Store” in the left hand side menu.

Click on the “App Store” tab and you’ll see the main page. You will need an active internet connection, broadband and high speed connections are recommended, to access and download apps.

Browse the selection of Apps. The main page displays some of the current popular Apps as well as user picks and staff picks. You can use the search box in the top right hand side of iTunes to search by type, maker, name, or function.

Once you enter a search term, hit Enter and the iTunes Store will return results that match your search. Click on an App to see it’s details as well as see the price. If the price is listed as “free” click on “Get App” and it will be downloaded to your iTunes program.

Connect your iPod Touch or iPhone via USB to your computer. When it appears in the left hand side menu, go into your purchased section under “Store” on left hand side and drag the downloaded App to the iPod icon that appears on the left hand side. Once completed, you can access and use the App anytime.

You can also access the App Store directly on the iPod Touch or iPhone by clicking on the App Store or iTunes logo on the Home Screen.

While other options exist such as third party websites that “offer” free Apps, some of these websites may be offering illegal copies of Apps or Apps that have not passed Apple’s screening process. Apps downloaded from outside websites may contain viruses, spyware, or unstable software code.
