Why I Recommend the Masterbuilt Electric Turkey Fryer

If you’re like me, you like to cook. I especially like to cook party foods for when people are coming over to watch a hockey game or football game. My Masterbuilt Electric Fryer has helped me cook large amounts of party food in no time. It’s not just made for turkeys, you can cook just about anything in it. Read why a Masterbuilt Electric Fryer (model #20010406) might be a great buy for you.

PRICE

I bought my fryer on clearance at Kmart, for only $35. It was missing the fryer basket, but all I had to do was call up Masterbuilt and ask them to send me one, and they did send me a replacement for free. The retail value of this fryer is $150.00. If you’re lucky, you’ll able to get this fryer for a little cheaper than the regular price. I probably wouldn’t have purchased this fryer if the price tag read $150. However, this fryer does perform well and live up to a $150 value. If you have the money for it, go ahead and buy it.

SIZE & CAPACITY

The Masterbuilt Electric Turkey Fryer has a capacity of 28 quarts, although you will never fill the oil up to the top. There’s a line that will tell you where to fill the oil to, which is about 3 gallons. The fryer can fry a 14 lb turkey, 10 lbs of shrimp, 10 lbs of French fries, 8 lbs of chicken wings, and more. The fryer itself is pretty big, but you can use it on your countertop, because it’s 100% countertop safe.

FEATURES

The reason why I like this fryer so much is because I can use it indoors. Unlike other turkey fryers, which use propane and must be used outside, this fryer is electric and can be used safely inside. This is especially nice when it’s 10 degrees outside and you want to deep-fry food. Another feature I like about this fryer is you can adjust the time and temperature for cooking. My little Presto Fry Daddy fryer has no thermostat, so I pretty much just have to guess when the oil is ready. For most foods, you’ll want to turn the temp up to about 400 degrees. You can either cook in the time mode, or in temperature mode. Time mode is very helpful, especially if you are deep-frying a turkey which requires about 3 ½ minutes per pound. The fryer will come with a separate power cord, stainless steel heating element, drain hook and aluminum basket.

OIL

So what’s the best kind of oil to use in the Masterbuilt Electric Turkey Fryer? I recommend using peanut oil, which has a high smoke point and a neutral flavor. You can use vegetable or canola oil, but peanut oil is best, especially when frying a turkey. Crisco sells a large 3 gallon jug of peanut oil, especially for these large fryers. It costs about $25, and can be found at Wal-Mart or other grocery stores. The Crisco box also has a great recipe for Cajun deep fried turkey.

CLEAN-UP

When you are finished cooking food in the fryer, the oil must be cooled before you empty and store your fryer. You can keep the oil inside the fryer, and it can be used 2-3 more times until it needs to be thrown out. If you choose to keep the oil in the fryer, make sure it’s completely cool before you store the fryer. If you don’t want to keep the oil inside the pot, you can use the convenient drain valve at the bottom of the fryer. Oil can be stored in a container until the next use.
