I was a student at Gwinnett Technical College in Lawrenceville, Georgia for a little over a year and a half. I thought I would give some advice and my thoughts on Gwinnett Technical College to students thinking of attending this college. Gwinnett college offers a variety of certificates, diplomas, and associates degrees. For any student thinking of getting a degree at Gwinnett Technical College should take a look at the good and the bad of Gwinnett Technical College.
The Good
One of the best things about Gwinnett Technical College is that the school is that the tuition is very inexpensive. When I was going there over a year ago, it was less than $400 to take a full course load. Most state schools are 3 to 4 times more expensive than this school.
Another great thing about Gwinnett Technical College is that the school offers a great variety or programs including many certificates, degrees, and diplomas. Gwinnett Technical College offers many programs and classes including medical assisting, auto mechanics, culinary arts, business, teaching, and much more.
Gwinnett Technical College is also great because it caters to non-traditional students and students who work full-time day jobs. Gwinnett Technical College offers many night classes for students. Gwinnett Technical College also has a great number of on line classes that let you work on your class work from home at anytime of the day. I took all on line classes and I really enjoyed them.
Gwinnett Technical College is also conveniently located in Lawrenceville, Georgia off Sugar Loaf Parkway. It is easily accessible from Interstate 85 and Georgia Highway 316.
The Bad
If you plan on eventually transferring credit to another school in the state of Georgia, you may run into a few problems. A lot of the universities in the state of Georgia take very few credits from Gwinnett Technical College. None of the business classes that I took transferred to my next school. I only had two classes transfer and they were both psychology classes. You need to check with the school you are interested in to see if the classes you are thinking about taking transfer. At most larger college and university websites, you can check on line at their web page to see what classes will transfer.
Another disadvantage is the cost of books. At larger universities, there can be many off campus book stores, so prices are cheaper because of competition. At Gwinnett Technical College, there is only one book store and the prices are high. Don’t be surprised if you books cost more than your tuition.
Overall Thoughts
If you are looking for a smaller less expensive school to take classes, Gwinnett Technical College is a great choice. They offer many programs that larger universities don’t. They also offer on line classes as well. If you do think of going to Gwinnett Technical College, just do some research and make sure your credits will transfer. Overall I would definitely give this school a look.
