Causes of Bone Pains

There can be a number of reasons for having bone pain. Let’s explore those here in this article.

One of the most common reasons for having bone pain is arthritis. There are many types of arthritis, one of which is osteoarthritis. The joint cartilage has a loss that is progressive, and as it occurring, there is a lot of pain in the bones, soreness of the joints, and stiff joints upon first waking up in the morning. In osteoarthritis, joints are also swollen along with the pain and stiffness. Anti-inflammatory medicines and steroids short term may often help this type of bone pain from osteoarthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis causes a lot of pain within the bones and joints. This is an inflammatory type of arthritis. There is a lot of joint swelling, pain and stiffness, a restricted range of motions in the affected joints, and the stiffness upon waking up in the morning is worse than it is with osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis comes from an autoimmune response where the body attacks healthy cells and can cause this form of arthritis. Methotrexate is a drug that may be used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

Osteoporosis causes a loss of bone mass that can lead into very easy fractures. Most people that have this disease are genetically predisposed to it. The bones with osteoporosis will often be sore, painful, stiff, and filled with muscle tension. Bone spasms are also not uncommon with osteoporosis. There are now many treatments to use in the management of osteoporosis than ever before.

Bone infections are definitely a big cause for having intense bone pains. Osteomyelitis is either a bone infection that can be acute, or ongoing. In the case of bone infections, the infection can either be because of some bacterium or perhaps a fungus. Either way, it is very painful. Because osteomyelitis involves a bone infection, it may also cause a person to run a fever, have an upset stomach, and swelling. Other symptoms may include profuse sweating, chills, and intensive back pains. Treating this problem often involves hospitalization so that the person affected may receive intravenous medications.

Broken bones or fractured bones will naturally cause a lot of pain. If you have injured a bone due to a sports or other type of injury, you will generally hear a pop, that sounds like a break which it probably is. The area where the bone has been injured will also show a lot of swelling and bruising at the site. The bone may even be sticking way out, (or not,) at the injury site. It is best to not move the arm or leg if it appears to be broken. By all means, keep the leg still or arm, until proper treatment is sought.

A serious cause of bone pain is bone cancer. There will be a lot of bone pains, and swelling. But the difference here is that the person with bone cancer will experience loss of weight, overwhelming tiredness, along with the swelling and pain.
