Family Trees & Branches: The Character Groups Within Sororities and Fraternities

It can be thought that once one enters any sorority or fraternity, the friendships and bonds of the fraternity or sorority are shared with all members of the organization. On the surface this is the correct way of thinking; however, in both sorority and fraternity, the new, running and student impression of their Greek organizations is closer, more structured, and in many ways more tightly bound.

The Prosapia Tree is such an impression. Family trees are surrogate “families” in sororities and fraternities. The result is a hierarchy of fraternity and sorority Big/Little system. The Big/Little system allows fraternities and sororities to accept pledges for their Little Brothers or Little Sisters. This means their duty as a continuation of the traditions of the sisters and their existence. What has also been done, however, is the existence of a version of the Ordinance of Family Trees.

Of course, the founders and early members did not know that in a small undertaking such a group would expand and grow in such a way as to form “families”. One often hears comments like “Oh, he’s my big big (big brother‘s big brother) or she’s my Twin (individuals in the same pledge class who share the same Big Brother or Big Sister) and my sister is my sibling (individuals not in the same pledge class who share the same Big).

In many cases these families carve out their own identities. For example, they were not always used, but all families now have names. Names like “The Beautiful Family,” “Dynasty,” “The Irish Rose Family,” “La Familia,” and just about anything imaginable. Families create their own family mottos, design t-shirts, deliver traditional gifts and get together. into his own This builds and even closer sense of relationship in large Greek organizations and pledge classes that have more than 100 members.

Do you see that the family tree would be enough of a portion within the right sorority or fraternity? Wrong. Most Family Trees have “branches” that are even more closely related family groups within the Family Tree. Direct branches are the result of separate races formed by early members who took more than one Little. If one big-great-great-grand Big took three Little then odds are that years ago these Littles decided to establish their own identity within the Family. Branches within the Family Tree respect Big Sister Big Brother so they can trace their lineage through themselves; however, in order to maintain closer camaraderie and smaller numbers, they decide not to separate from the tree, but to carve out a more defined identity.

Although Family Tree names may come from the names of the authors, or they want to inherit a common idea or concept of families, the branches are more specific and based on character. Branch names are generally longer than Tree names. For example, “Sexy Sarcastic Sicilian Beautiful Baked Brunette Bitches Branch Bunny Shot Family”, “I Do What I Want Branch Dynasty Tree”, “Brunette Bombshell Branch” and so on.

But as funny as it may sound, these branches begin to form their own members and thus form a Sisterhood or Fraternity. red-headed parents in real life are burning to raise their children a hundredfold. Similarly, Trees and Branches produce even more offspring in the form of capturing Smalls that have similar characteristics. For example, Brunette Bombshell will only shoot on pretty brunettes like Little in hopes of attracting other pretty brunettes, while The sisterhood has the next attack. The goal is that if students return to a sorority or fraternity years later, they stay the same — sororities and fraternities don’t like change.

Branches and trees all sound like fun, right? Well, they’re mostly fun. This is the case when these groups can only help “good fun” to turn their members into little prejudiced snobs. They can’t vote in favor of a potential new member because their Big Brother or Big Sister doesn’t like them. In favor of the power of the new member, no matter how incompetent, can be voted because they are attractive red head and their Family or Branch’s express rule only red heads can join.

However, in the already elitist Greek structure of the organization it is interesting to point out the rules and regulations written by the national body there cannot be a balance between the identities of sisters and brotherhoods in the field of life seen. The “Pretty” or “Jock Fraternity” can be directly related to the early establishment of Family Trees and each branch’s effort to set a higher and higher member bar each year.
