‘House’ Season 6 Episode 19 ‘The Choice’

‘House’ Season 6 Episode 19 ‘The Choice’ begins at a wedding, which is ordinarily a happy occasion for all involved. And so it is until the point arrives for the groom to say, “I do.” Instead nothing comes out of his mouth at all and then he swoons.

Spoilers surely follow.

House, in the meantime, is having serious problems of his own. When he wakes up in the morning, he finds himself not only in the wrong bed but in the wrong house, much to the consternation of the young boy whose bed he is in (fortunately not with the boy.) It seems that House is starting to self medicate again, this time with booze.

But at the hospital, House examines the groom and concludes that he is faking in order to get out of getting married. But, outside the emergency room, he swoons again. Then he develops extreme headaches. Then he has a heart attack.

House discovers that his staff is suddenly become very friendly toward him, which is very off behavior seeing at House is a very unfriendly kind of guy. He finds out that Wilson, who is redeveloping a relationship with his first ex wife, is paying people to be House’s friends. House finds this interesting, enough to allow Thirteen to take him to a lesbian bar. Then there is the strange karaoke scene with Foreman and Chase.

Even more messed up, Taub had called off the open marriage arrangement with his wife. He finds sneaking around and cheating on her all the more satisfying. This does not end well at all.

To make a long story short about the groom, it seems that he is actually gay, a fact revealed by the sudden appearance of an ex boy friend. The groom is very much in denial about this, not only denying it to his fiancé, but to himself. He has been taking male hormone therapy to try to drive the gayness out of his body. It has the effect, combined with other preconditions, of making him one of House’s unlucky patients. He is cured, but not without a home, without a boy friend, and without a fiancé.

House’s boozing is starting to get worse. Between the pain in his leg, his anxiety about Wilson and his old/new flame, and his unrequited something with Cuddy, he has a lot of hurt to try to try to numb. This too will end badly, methinks.
