James Logan High School, often referred to simply as “Logan”, opened in 1959. It is located in a neighborhood that most people call “Decoto”. Decoto is now a village in the city of Union, but before the village was one of the communities that made up the city of Union. When the city of Union was incorporated, there were three main communities. Decoto, Newport, and Alvarado. Each community has its own set of characteristics that make them unique.
Teens from Hayward, Union City, and sometimes even San Leandro, watch Logan. Although there are other schools in Hayward, most people, when given a choice, choose James Logan High over a high school such as Tennyson or Mount Eden. The reason for this is because those high schools which have just been named are located in the city, where there are gangs everywhere, and to avoid the influence of these gangs, it is necessary to go to a school which is not in Hayward, and is near Logan. .
Through experience I have learned that other Northern California High Schools feel bad about Logan. Usually thats what other schools in the area like Bellerman Prep. they have standards a little higher than Logan’s.
And that’s just about Logan in general. There are programs in Logan that are nationally recognized and respected and respected by other schools. Such as the James Logan High School Forensic team. They are nationally recognized and respected and coached by the well-known Tommie Lindsey Jr. who won the prestigious MacArthur Genius Award, which “gives genius” what it adds to people’s reputation. I get the tax, and also the recipient’s pocket, since each company gives $500,000.
Another program at Logan is known as the Band and Color Band. Those having the honor of performing at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
Logan is very diverse, with the majority of students being of some Asian race, still a large number of Hispanic descent, and African Americans The large minority at James Logan are Native Americans and Caucasians, who are barely visible throughout the school.
New additions have been made to the campus recently. The last new year portion of the school marked as 300’s opened. the school is currently up to D’s. More recent additions are the new 400 buildings that look over the current 400 buildings and portables. James Logan offers many college prep. course But up to this day only a little less than half of their college studies. On top of that, the school needs some work to talk about security. With the neighborhood under tension after the recent massacre at the nearby Middle School, Barnard White.
It is a great school too with some rough edges and short comings that are overcome by the wonderful programs and teachers that make Logan a school.
