The latest edition of MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenge has started airing, and as usual, it looks like there’s going to be some fireworks. Hosted again by cutie-pie BMX dirt bike rider T.J. Lavin, this edition of the challenge is set in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
The first thing known as 32 The Real World, Road Rules and New Caro Challenge cast members. The cast is divided into two groups, Rookies and Veterans. Not much is called a Veteran—anyone who has competed in two challenges is considered one.
Mark cast by veteran CT (from Real World Paris). CT kicked out the last challenge to beat the roommate, so it’s surprising that he was called to this event. Given that he makes for good TV, especially now that his girlfriend Diem (from Caro Fresh) is still by his side. Watch for some relationship tension in the first episode.
Another classic contestant is Beth St., from back in the early days of The Real World (1992’s Real World Los Angeles). Beth S, now surely pushing 40 and still competing in these challenges, is hated by most of her fellow castaways. But MTV knows they can count on Beth to stir up some trouble.
Evang (from Fresh Meat) is quickly becoming an MTV favorite. This is one of the strongest players in the Veteran team, like Evelyn (Ev) who also continues to go back to another.
Danny and Melinda, from the Austin cast of The Real World are both here, but on different teams (Danny is a veteran, Melinda is a rookie). She must be pleased, considering that she is betrothed in marriage.
Kenny, Scott Baio probably from New Caro, is also here, lively with a sarcastic personality. Yes, Road Rules Katie is a veteran who has caused her share of trouble in previous challenges (especially her feud with Veronica in the Inferno challenge).
Then there’s Coral, the tough-talking girl from The Real World Back to New York (season 10). It’s here and it’s sure to cause a lot of drama. Coral has a lot to talk about and he doesn’t fail in the first episode when he approaches her with a drunken CT.
In the previous episode, it came down to the task of the first challenge. A good old game of tug of war decides which team prepares the rooms you choose first. Unfortunately for the victims of the war, they are sleeping in a cramped, crowded room filled with beds and local bed bugs (and one bathroom for 16 people).
After the challenge, the room was completed for a night of partying for the cast members. There is great hooking and the next day the shot competes in the first real challenge. The two losers have to sacrifice members of their team to sign. Defeated by the challenge, Gandlett returns home.
With a few changes to the rules: The winning team of the challenge gets one of the members of the opposing team to choose a leader in Gandletto. They can also select one member of the opposing party to “save” from the Gantlet. It could prove to be interesting, as the opposing team has a big hand in dictating who gets to go home.
Another major change is, Bank Accounts are no longer. Which means when the challenge is won the money goes into the pot for the final mission. Only the winners of the final challenge go home with all the money. Therefore, the stakes are much higher this time and the female members are afraid to challenge because they are afraid that the males will single out the “stronger” horses for the final challenge.
As usual, expect lots of drama, cat fights, drunkenness, hooks, laughter and tears as Rookies and Veterans battle for a jackpot worth over $300,000.
The Real World Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet III airs on Wednesday night at 10:00 PM on MTV (with repeats by the week).
