Pizza Shelf has more than five locations in the United States, according to Entrepreneur magazine, so there’s likely to be one near you when you don’t feel like cooking. However, if you have health concerns, eating pizza can be a little tricky. Some of their menu items are easily high in fat and calories. Fortunately, they also have healthier options. If you know what to pick and what to avoid, you can have a tasty pizza without sacrificing your goals.
Benefits
As or fast food goes, pizza is one of the healthier choices. Good cheese source of protein, and the accompanying sauce provides lycopene. Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant and known anti-inflammatory, according to Meir Stampfer, MD, professor of epidemiology and nutrition at Harvard Public Schools Health (See Reference 1). However, some items on the Pizza Hut menu are healthier than others.
Appetizers
Once you have decided to brag, he also tries to order appetizers. Pizza Shelf offers Hot wings, Mild wings, and Bread stick. The nutrition information for a pizza cottage serving puts each of these at 100 to 110 calories with 6 or 7 g of fat. That sounds manageable, until you look at the small figures and realize the “serve” is actually two pieces. Eat six pieces, and you’ve consumed about 300 calories and 21 g of fat, before even getting to the main course. To put that in perspective, consider that Mayo Clinic recommends keeping a daily fat consumption between 44 to 78 g. of fat per day.
Panormus Pan Pizzas
Although the personal lagans are smaller than the standard lagans, you may want to avoid the pizza but the “panormo” lagans. Panormous food lover has 1470 calories and 80 g of fat. Other pan-fried pans aren’t much better, with the cheese pizza weighing in at 1,100 calories and 45 g of fat and the Veggie Lover’s Pizza at 1,010 calories and 38 g of fat. However, those numbers are on a whole pizza, so drop in calories by splitting one with a friend.
Pasta
Pizza Shelf offers pasta, but this is not the skinny spaghetti with tomato sauce that you can make at home. Unfortunately, all Pizza Hut pastas are high in fat and calories. A serving of Pizza Hut’s Lasagna has 600 calories and 33 g of fat, Bacon Mac and Cheese has 520 calories and 22 g of fat, and Meaty Marinara has 520 calories and 24 g of fat. Also note that a serving is half a pan, not a whole pan.
It’s a delicious menu
With so many high-fat, high-calorie items on the menu, it can’t seem like what to order at Pizza Plut. Fortunately, Pizza Hut offers a Fit N Delicious Menu. This menu includes flavors such as Chicken Mushroom and Jalapeno, Chicken Red Onion and Peppers, or if you prefer a meat-free option, pepper green with red onion and roasted tomatoes. Each pizza on this menu contains fewer than 200 calories and 5 g of fat. However, you should know that those numbers are in each segment, so think about the attraction.
