Review of WWE’s Survivor Series 2007

Survivor Series is one of the few WWE Pay Per View specials that are still around. Even though WWE has cut back to the traditional 5 on 5 and 4 on 4 matches, Survivor Series still has great memories of Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Bret Hart, Undertaker, Mr. Perfect and The Rock brings it back.

This year is the 20th anniversary of the first Survivor Series. There is only one traditional 5 on 5 match, but hopefully the magic Survivor Series will still be there. Let’s see how this Survivor Series turns out.

CM Punk (c) vs. .John Morrison vs.
I never thought these four words would come out of my mouth: The Miz was good. I’m not sure that Miz has a great offensive repertoire yet, but he’s definitely good at selling and getting some other elements. CM Punk and John Morrison are both very capable so this would be a good opening match. Definitely a good start to this year’s Survival Series.

Torrie Wilson, Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, Michelle McCool and Mary Beth Phoenix, Victoria, Layla, Melina and Jillian.
The women’s match is 5 on 5 matches, but there is one chance match. I guess WWE doesn’t have faith in letting a woman go long enough for an elimination match. The women’s match at Survivor Series was one of the best women’s matches I’ve seen in WWE. It does not move usually mine, but we read these unusual and. Michelle McCool came through in peace with her, Victoria, Mickie and Beth- Phoenix were good matches in the ring.

Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch (c) vs. Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly – World Heavyweight Tag Team Title
The Survivor Series match for the tag team division was not necessarily a bad match it was just very bland. None of the wrestlers matched me in interest as they didn’t have a lot of personality. Trevor Murdoch has talent and Cody Rhodes has ability, but both are held back by Cade and Hardcore Holly.

Triple H, Jeff Hardy, Kane and Rey Mysterio Umaga, MVP, Ken Kennedy, Big Daddy V, Finlay
This is one of the Survival Series elimination matches of the night. MVP gave a very good interview earlier and told us that Matt Hardy is not competing. Team Triple H also did a cute interview where Kane revealed that Triple H once pretended to be Kane and had sex with a mannequin who was supposed to be his dead friend and now has Kane team with him.

The match itself proceeded very slowly. Kane is eliminated first, which makes me realize that Kane’s importance has really dropped in the past 5 years. The mystery is about the next and this is when it starts to be fun as Jeff Hardy and Triple H go 5 on 2 against other teams. Triple H and Jeff Hardy, with the crowd behind them, make a typical babyface comeback and methodically eliminate all Team members Umaga A slow start, but a good finish for the Survivor Series match.

The Great Khali vs
I hate to say I really enjoyed posting this. Getting pumped up from Hornswoggle to Shane McMahon happy Hornswoggle and Finlay coming to the rescue was a nice touch.

Randy Orton (c) vs. Shawn Michaels – WWE Championship Title
Randy Orton and Shawn Michaels’ match at Survivor Series was not bad but they did not take it up to that next level that it’s supposed to go to for a huge Pay Per View. The psychology in the match with Shawn Michaels not being able to use the Super Kick was good but overall this match was a letdown.

Batista (c) vs. Undertaker – World Heavyweight Title
The main event at Survivor Series was much like the previous match. It wasn’t a bad match, it was a good match, but last year Batista and Undertaker wrestled four times and I think they were all better than this one. The pair did not live up to expectations. The Edge run-in was great though and gives Smackdown some much needed star power.

Unfortunately this Survival Series doesn’t really stack up. The first match of the Survivor Series in the tradition of the Survivor Series matches did their job and built up to a good show but the two main events were just really flat and made the Survivor Series seem like one of the least important Reply Per Views.
