Top 5 Health Benefits of Losing Weight

At one point or another, you have gone through the stages of being obsessed about your weight. We all did. Some things have never changed, though. The media has not changed the way it portrays how girls and women should be when it comes to our body shape. But, thanks to countless support groups and resources, girls, teens and women are more aware now about the real meaning of beauty. Skinny is not necessarily beautiful, it is not for everybody and definitely does not always mean you are healthy.

One thing that you should know about, is learning to understand your body type. When it comes to weight loss regime, what may work for you may not work for others, this includes weight loss diet plans and medications. There is no “one size fits all” weight loss pill. The only tried and true thing that works for everybody’s weight loss is a good amount of exercise, I know, I know, easier said than done, right? Well, this is where your friends come in handy, and just like the old adage, “misery loves company,” if you are feeling miserable following through with your exercise goals, grab a friend or two and schedule a workout at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes to an hour.

When you need to lose a pound or two, or even ten pounds or more, you have to look at the real benefits that you would reap from it. Your focus should be about the health benefits it can bring. You should also be aware of losing weight the healthy way. Trust me, we all have been tempted to try a diet fad or two, with a promise of taking off 10 to 20 pounds in a matter of days. Be aware of such claim, these are diet fads that mostly come with the following disclosure printed on their weight loss bottles, “These have not been evaluated and/or tested by FDA.” In layman’s term, take it at your own risk. This disclosure alone should alert you not to buy them.

So, what are the health benefits of a healthy weight loss? There are several health benefits of losing weight. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a weight loss does not really need to be a dramatic one to see and feel its health benefits. A mere weight loss of up to 10 pounds if you are overweight is better than not losing weight at all. Even if you are still outside your ideal body weight, losing five percent of your current weight decreases your health risk factors, particularly heart disease and diabetes, which are two chronic diseases that are associated with obesity or being overweight.

Aside from reducing or decreasing your health risk factors. A healthy weight loss also improves your cholesterol level, your blood pressure readings and increases your physical stamina, which affects your energy levels and mood as well. If you look good, you definitely feel good. The first step is on you and make sure to involve your family, friends, co-workers, even your community.
