Fit for Life: The Diet that Worked for Me

At the age of 29,I found myself carrying my first child , Being on a diet was the last thing I was thinking of . My brother-in-law was on this diet that he said was the best diet he has ever been on .It was more of a way of life then a diet .I asked him a lot of questions about the diet and what was so great about it. After all, dieting can be a real chore to most people. It had never worked for me because it often got boring after time, and cutting specific foods out of your diet can get to be quite tedious.

The diet that my brother-in-law introduced me to was the Fit For Life Diet. The thing that I could not seem to grasp at first was how this so called Fit For Life stood out from all of the others. What made it work so well, while there were so many other diets out on the market that were nothing but hype and did not do what they claimed to do? I debated whether or not I should try it to see if it worked, since my brother-in-law seemed to be losing weight at an amazing rate.

I decided that I was going to sit down and read the book that he lent me. The book was called Fit For Life, written by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond.I read the book in one afternoon . It was very simple t o understand . The diet was mainly based on food combination and having to eat them at the right time of day . So I decided to try it . But since I was carrying my child and thought that a diet was out of the question for me, I didn’t think about it for a couple of weeks .

How the Diet Works

I started thinking about the diet again even though I was pregnant. I talked to my doctor about it and even though it was a diet I felt it was a way of life. I got the “okay” from my doctor and started the diet. Upon waking you had a glass of whatever type of juice you wanted, whether you decided to make your own or it was store bought. The rest of the morning, you are to have any type of fruit that you want all morning long. You can eat as much fruit as you would like, but you should limit yourself on the bananas. When lunch time comes along, it is time for you to eat all vegetables and vegetables juices. I learned to love V8 juice and I still do. At dinner, you are supposed to eat lean protein and vegetables. For example, you could have a piece of chicken with all of the vegetables and salad that you want. Or you could eat fish, a baked potato, and salad. The main key is to not eat dairy or bread products. The diet is very simple to follow and I felt great .

Harvey and Marilyn Diamond

The writers of this book believed that the way we eat may be the reason that we feel sick or lack energy at times. They also felt that milk was only meant for babies and that once you are off the bottle, it is not something that is necessary for you to have. The diet itself is more or less a non toxin way of eating, which helps you feel and even look better. Harvey and Marilyn Diamond also felt that by eating foods during certain points of the day, your digestive system would not be harmed by working too hard to digest all of the different types of foods. By eating the right foods, your body will be getting the right amount of energy that it needs to function on a daily basis.

Why My Doctor Was Concerned

This diet was working wonders for me . Even though I was pregnant, I was losing weight I was strictly following the Fit For Life diet, except I had decided to add yogurt to my diet, because I wanted the calcium benefits because I was pregnant at the time. I was walking and felt like I had so much energy . I felt great and looked great. When I first began the diet, I was very skeptical about eating foods at a certain time of day in order to get fit and stay fit. When I went for my monthly check-up with the doctor, he was alarmed. I was seven months pregnant and I had not gained a single pound. In fact, I had lost eleven pounds in the last four months. I felt great and I told him that I was eating healthy fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meat and even yogurt.

What My Doctor Had Me Do Instead

Even though I was on a diet in order to develop a healthier way of life, the doctor was alarmed because he thought that I was on a diet to lose weight. Well, the doctor called my husband into his office and told him to take me out once a week for a banana split. So my husband followed the doctor’s order, and I gained weight. However, I still followed the Fit For Life plan. I had my baby and my weight at birth was twenty pounds more from the pregnancy. I had no problem losing this weight after birth and could wear my jeans a week later. Unfortunately, I got used to eating banana splits and could not seem to follow the diet as strictly as I had before.

How the News and Health Critics Looked at the Diet

Health critics felt that the Fit For Life diet was an unhealthy way of life. They said that food combining was not a healthy diet. They also felt that cutting out bread and dairy products was not a nutritional way to eat. Apparently, the fad of this diet seemed to phase out. All I can personally say is that it worked for me. If someone really wanted to lose weight and feel healthy while doing so, I would highly recommend the Fit For life diet to them. Dieting can be hard when you have to give up certain foods and you are limited to your options. However, you will see results fast. In my opinion, doing so is worthwhile. It worked for me during the hardest time to diet for a woman, when she is expecting to gain a whole lot of weight and feel miserable. If it can work for a pregnant woman, it can also work for anyone who is really willing to make a few sacrifices (such as dairy and bread products) to lose weight.
